Moneyhub is closing: the best alternatives for UK budgeting (2026)

Updated 5 August 2026 · 6-minute read

Full disclosure: this guide is written by the team behind Summa, one of the alternatives below. We have kept the comparison honest, including where a competitor is the better fit, because that is the only kind of guide worth reading.

What's happening

Moneyhub has announced that its consumer personal-finance app is shutting down in August 2026, as the company concentrates on its business-to-business platform. If you use the app, your connected accounts, spending categories and history stop being available once the app closes, so the priority, before anything else, is getting your data out.

First: export your data before the app closes

  1. Export your transactions. In Moneyhub, export your transaction history (CSV is the format every other app can read). Do this per account if needed, and go back as far as the export allows; years of history are worth keeping.
  2. Note your recurring payments. Screenshot or export your regular payments list; it is the fastest way to rebuild bills and subscriptions in a new app.
  3. Record account balances. A simple note of each account's balance on export day makes it easy to verify your new app starts from the right numbers.

The alternatives, honestly compared

Summa: best if you want privacy, forecasting, and one app for everything

Summa is our app, so read this knowing that. It connects UK banks (Open Banking via Plaid) on its Pro+Connect plan, and works fully manually or via CSV on the free tier. What is genuinely different: the AI that categorises spending and forecasts your month runs on your device, shared budgets for couples are end-to-end encrypted, and the free trial is a full month rather than the usual seven days. It also speaks 17 languages and handles net worth, savings goals, receipts and recurring payments in one place. Weaknesses, honestly: it is iPhone/iPad-only (no web or Android app), and bank sync requires the paid tier.

Emma: the best-known UK alternative

Emma is a polished UK money app with bank connections, budgeting and bill tracking, and a large user base. Its free tier is capable; the paid tiers unlock more accounts and features. If you want the most mainstream UK choice with both iOS and Android apps, Emma is the safe pick.

Snoop: best free start

Snoop (UK) focuses on spending insights and bill-switching suggestions with a generous free tier. It is lighter on planning and forecasting than the others, but a low-friction landing spot if you mainly used Moneyhub to see all accounts in one place.

YNAB: best for zero-based envelope budgeting

YNAB is the specialist if you want to give every pound a job. It is web-first with strong apps, has UK bank connections, and a famously devoted community. It asks you to adopt its method, and it is one of the pricier options with no free tier beyond the trial.

A spreadsheet: best if you want total control

Genuinely fine for some people. You will do the importing, categorising and charting yourself, and nothing syncs. But nothing expires or shuts down either.

Moving to Summa in about ten minutes

  1. Import your history. Add your Moneyhub CSV through Summa's Import Check. It maps columns automatically and shows a preview of every row before anything is saved, so a mis-mapped file never pollutes your data.
  2. Connect your banks (optional). On Pro+Connect, link UK current accounts and credit cards through Open Banking; new transactions then arrive automatically.
  3. Let the guided setup build your budget. Summa reads your imported history and proposes monthly budgets per category; adjust and confirm.
  4. Check your recurring payments. Summa detects likely bills and subscriptions from the history you imported. Confirm the real ones and your monthly forecast is live.

FAQ

When exactly does Moneyhub close?

The company's closure notice gives the shutdown date for the consumer app: mid-August 2026 at time of writing. Treat the export step as urgent either way; app-store removal and data cut-off can precede the final date.

Will my direct debits or standing orders be affected?

No. Moneyhub (like all the apps above) only reads your accounts through Open Banking. Your actual banking (payments, direct debits, standing orders) lives with your bank and is untouched.

Is my data safe in a budgeting app?

Open Banking connections are read-only and FCA-regulated in the UK. Beyond that, apps differ in how much they can see: Summa's design keeps analysis on your device and end-to-end encrypts anything you share with a partner, which means we cannot read it, a difference worth asking any provider about.
